Escalera/Early Escalera Program Manager/Instructor Job Opening

 

Who we are: Puentes is a nonprofit that has been serving the Latinx population in New Orleans since 2007. We are currently focused on youth education, leadership and development through our Escalera and LUNA programs. 

 

 

What is Escalera: Escalera is an after-school, college readiness, and career exploration program dedicated to supporting Latinx Youth in their path after high school. The program consists of a semi-structured curriculum, which was developed by UnidosUS, the largest Latinx advocacy organization in the United States.

 

Who are you: You have a strong commitment to the Latinx Community, experience in education, and a desire to uplift Latinx students. Must be fully bilingual in English and Spanish and have strong cultural competency skills as well as a commitment to anti-racist work. Strong organization skills and self-motivation are highly desired. Puentes New Orleans is an equal opportunity employer, we are an LGBTQ-friendly organization committed to inclusion on all fronts. This is a contract position with a 40-hour commitment, with the possibility of becoming a full-time staff.

 

Duties and responsibilities include: 

  • Attend UnidosUS pre-program training—held in August, usually in-person travel expenses covered by UnidosUS. This year the training will be held virtually.

  • Recruit and maintain a cohort of no less than 30 Juniors, they should stay in the program up through their Senior year of High School.

  • Recruit and maintain a cohort of no less than 20 Freshmen.

  • Deliver the Escalera curriculum to one cohort of Juniors and one cohort of Seniors in Grace King High School. 

  • Deliver the Early Escalera curriculum to a cohort of Freshmen once per week in Grace King High School. 

  • Plan and implement Escalera lessons for each cohort. Each cohort meets once per week for two hours. The Escalera Instructor is responsible for studying and understanding the material that will be implemented. While UnidosUS provides the materials for the Escalera and Early Escalera lessons, the Instructor is responsible for researching additional resources to enhance the curriculum like guest speakers, videos, online learning tools, etc. 

  • Coordinate food and beverages for the students. 

  • Plan and execute the STEM knowledge Summit, College and Career Fair, and a visit to local colleges including Loyola, Tulane, and UNO, and other experiential learning activities necessary for the program.

  • Provide updates of the Escalera program for usage in our newsletter and social media and website.

  • Collect data for reports and student surveys required by UnidosUS. 

  • This position will receive support from the LUNA Program Manager and Admin. Assistant.
